It's all experimentation of what's to come hahaha.

I was afraid of the character personality being overshadowed by Vector, which was more a side character in a drunk spotlight.

It's a fair score, and it does help not with SONIC Sonic or Marjo but future projects.

Character is my weakest link it seems, so I must expand.

"Normally I hate style changes"

Hooo, boy. This does not bode well.

Oh hey.

Just a reminder - in cases where context seems lacking, reading the author comments can help. Moreso in the earlier ones (since those were made before I actually started being on Smackjeeves), but still.

I request a review of my webcomic Sonic Dashly.

The comic that did the crossover with SONIC Sonic.

a lot of these points seem to be based upon your own personal preference rather than any qualitative problems with the comic.

It's like if I went to see a horror film and gave it 0/10 because I don't like horror films.

Reply King_Rover, March 19th, 2014, 9:04 am

@Squiddles: Kinda hard for the horror hating critic if all he gets is horror movies to review.

Reply Guest, March 19th, 2014, 9:06 am

@King_Rover: maybe the horror hating critic should review the horror films based upon the quality of the writing, the cinematography, special effects and take an unbiased look.

@Squiddles (Guest):

This IS an unbiased look at this comic. And it's literally impossible to have a "qualitative problem" with a comic. Criticism is just an educated opinion, that's all it really is. Nobody has the exact same opinion, no matter how obvious to you an opinion may seem.

As for personal preference, is it wrong for me to prefer characters who have more definitive personalities? This is still MY Review comic, so of course I'll talk about thinks that I view as problems. What you seem to want is the kind of reviews that Rotten Tomatoes do, or something, where it takes the average of several reviews to get the most accurate rating.

But there is such a thing as a qualitative complaint. If the comic is literally made poorly (eg: stretched sprites, bad special effects, bad writing, etc), that's a qualitative problem and a fair criticism.
If you personally dislike a certain humour style that a lot of other people do like, it's not really fair to say the comic is BAD for that reason. There's a big difference between "bad" and "not your taste."

Reply Ultimate Yoshi, March 19th, 2014, 5:15 pm

@Squiddles: I never once in this review said that this comic was "bad" because of its style of humor. For one, I talked about the lack of clear characterization as well as some story and visual issues with the comic. For another, I specifically stated in the closing paragraph that "SONIC Sonic isn't a bad comic at all."

Reply King_Rover, March 19th, 2014, 8:37 pm

Rereading the review, as the person who made this, I don't see any bias in this criticisms but there have been references to other comics he doesn't like, but I don't believe it made the problems with characterization anyway worse, I had a friend who called that my characters were a bit flat.

I can't expand too much with this last chapter of Sonic Sonic, but it does help me with future projects and helps other not make the same mistakes.
